Thursday Ramble

My cats have never been big on table food. But Marley is obsessed with Laughing Cow cheese. I left a wrapper on the counter the other day and I heard a weird crinkling noise coming from the kitchen, and Khaki was looking at me and looking back towards the kitchen, like, "Please observe this fool," so I went in there, and Marley was mauling the little foil wrapper with her tongue. And yesterday, she jumped into my lap and stole with her teeth a little bite of deli turkey protruding from my sandwich and scurried away. Maybe she's just extra hungry, but what a pushy broad she is. I've been noticing that she's looking a little thinner around the edges, and that's good, because I've been really watching how much I feed her in the effort to avoid sheer obesity, but from the way she's been foraging for my eats lately, maybe the poor thing is just starving. I don't know.

I made $110.75 at the garage sale on Saturday and was pleased as punch. About 40 videos represented the bulk of my profit margin. A creepy man with shifty eyes bought both The Opposite of Sex and Love and Sex and I wanted to say, "Dude. Those aren't porn." But who was I to deter a sale? Garage sales are amusing. We watched a near riot break out over a couple of Beatles records, and the bitchiness escalated until I let out a giant "GOD!" as I watched in exasperation and the more antagonistic party finally gave up and left. I forked over fifty cents to Karla's mom to buy her Johnny Cash Live at San Quentin record for my friend Carter who practically wept when he held it in his hands. Giving presents is fun.

:::

Okay, Elizabeth. My love for The West Wing has been born anew. I watched Toby talking to and about his new twin babies last night and I could not stop weeping. And the whole transferring of power to John Goodman was squicky and sad. And I enjoyed it so much! (And I really do plan to bring your season two tape that I've had for years now to Journal Con with me to finally give back to you. For real!)

On the day of onset of one's menses, one should not for lunch eat at Serop's and polish it off with Bluebell strawberry frozen yogurt. One will regret it.

:::

Speaking of regret, I'm trying to compile some thoughts on regret. And forgiveness. Big subjects to wrap one's brain around when one is practically in a fetal position from cramps and indigestion and burping shwarma and when the most complex idea one can muster is the question of in what position to lie on the couch when Survivor premieres tonight.

:::

I did run for seven whole minutes this morning, though. It's wondrous to be hurled out of bed in the morning by the sheer force of guilt over what was consumed the night before: i.e., everything in entire kitchen. Perhaps with all of these pregnant friends that I have, I am becoming a sympathetic eater. I really don't know how else I can explain the giant vat of stir-fried veggies, chicken, and whole wheat macaroni concoction I cooked followed by the mug of cereal and then the ice cream with graham crackers mashed up in it and the handfuls of pretzels and baked cool ranch doritos that I ate for dessert. I mean, who can? Explain that, I mean. Not I!

There's a big day game this weekend. My sister is now going out of town, so I'll be tailgating with my mother. That should be interesting. I'm sure she will love when I show up with my large raspberry margarita in my big classy styrofoam cup. I guess we'll just nomadically walk from one tailgating group to another, which is definitely my favorite thing to do. The weather is supposed to be magnificent. Practically everyone in the world should be there, so I think it will be a nice day. Oh yeah, and there's the actual game part, too. Woo, Go Tigers, hoo.

After I finished watching Season 2 of Felicity on DVD, I watched the commentaries that accompany several episodes.

Here are some things that I have learned.

1.) The cast LOVED the black and white stills / "Oh eee oh" theme of the first two seasons. Some HATED "Can you Become..." but some said it grew on them.

2.) The commentary was obviously recorded pre-March 2003 (when Scott Foley and Jennifer Garner broke up) because there are several mentions of how they met on the show and "now they're married!" and everyone sounded really pleased and happy when talking about them (including Scott Foley).

3.) Keri Russell and Scott Speedman do the commentary for the second episode, the one when they have gotten back from the road trip, are really happy, but he listens to her tape where she says it might be love, he freaks out, dumps her, and she cuts her hair. It was UNCLEAR TO ME whether or not they were still dating at the time of the commentary. (It seems to be a big guessing game in the press to this day whether or not they are still dating.) They were very friendly and flirty and laughed A LOT and there were obviously lots of inside jokes, but they would also say stuff like, "THIS IS AWKWARD" during scenes where they were fighting / breaking up / Ben was standing her up / discussing his being scared / etc. So I really just could not tell, but in my mind, I choose to believe that they are together and living in nonwedded bliss for all eternity.

4.) They all really LOVED the show. They keep talking about its high quality and how brilliant J.J. and Matt (the creators) are and how every episode was so beautifully shot and like a little movie and how they were really a family and how much they miss it.

5.) Greg Grunberg is very kind. He always seems to go out of his way to say nice things about everyone on the cast and crew.

6.) Overall, I give the commentary many thumbs up!

P.S. Speedy's crazy new vampire movie comes out this weekend and I think everyone should go see it.
