Costa Rica:
Day Three

We are on the beach at last. Glorious. Can I say glorious some more? My sister and I just walked around a bit and embraced a computer in a hotel lobby as if it were the nectar of the gods. We were glad to let those back at home know we are alive in Manuel Antonio and check the news a bit. Now we're lying on the beach with our sno-cones. We ate breakfast at Mar y Sombra, the oldest restaurant in Manuel Antonio. I had scrambled eggs, toast, and ham and a bottle of water that came up to my waist. I fed a little black puppy because I am not made of stone.

It's now some time in the evening. We are sitting out by the pool. Just saw a giant crab scurrying by. Today was a nice day, lying on the beach and swimming in the waves. We went to eat at the Marlin Restaurant, where I had bruschetta and a chicken salad. Eventually we took a bus out of whose door an older woman nearly pushed me up a huge hill in search of the ATM. We stopped at Café Milagro, which I'd read about online. I bought some coffee, and the others got banana bread.

We walked down to a parking area where there was an amazing view, and the owner, whose car my sister set her camera on to take a group self-timed photo, called us up to get a drink. The bar overlooked the water and cliffs and jungle. They had some fruit drinks, and I had a Fanta. No one can drink a Fanta without breaking into the goddamn don't you want a Fanta, Fanta song. Okay, I don’t know about anyone else, but I sure can't. We walked down to the Si Como No, which is like some kind of fancy pants hotel resort compound with a theater, spa, etc. We went to the gift shop. My sister and I had a water-bottle-on-our-heads-carrying contest while we waited for the bus. We finally caught a cab because I refused to walk three kilometers in the dark down the winding road of death. We took showers and frankly we are ready for bed. I feel tired from fighting the waves, walking, and swimming a few laps.

i'd never seen a sunset this color before.

don't you want a fanta, fanta?

Right now I'm so full of rage that I am actually contemplating the purchase of a soccer ball to kick around my yard.
