Here are some things to be happy about. Some of them won't happen for months, but I'm gearing up for them in the attempt to be an optimist. 1.) "Better Things," my favorite new (to me) song. It was performed at the concert last weekend and I was filled with such a feeling of joy. I felt like they were singing to me. I have downloaded three different versions: Dar Williams, Fountains of Wayne, and the Kinks, and I am forcing my brother to learn it and to play it at his next gig and to dedicate it to me. I am sending the lyrics to people. I am playing it on repeat. I love it. I am this song's evangelist. I think my neighbors are getting sick of hearing it. I play it loud. And a lot. 2.) The reunion. Seeing friends. Hoping the out-of-town ones will be able to come. 3.) Session ending. 4.) New York. I'm only going for 2.2 seconds, so I don't think I'll be able to meet up with any journal friends, and we've vowed not to do anything expensive, but it will be good just to chill with the girls. We're bonding and having a send-off for the one who's moving to San Francisco. And I've never seen my friend's place in Jersey City and I'm excited to feel the J.C. Vibe! 5.) The beach with my family. 6.) JournalCon, where hopefully I'll be able to see journal friends! I've never been. I went to Austin twice in college, but my memories are hazed over in giant fumes of pot smoke, and I can't say I recall very much about the city. So I'm pumped to rediscover it and see again and meet some very cool people. The hotel room is booked and the roommate situation is arranged. Now I just have to figure out if I'm going to drive or fly and if so how in the hell to afford it. Pump up the jam! 7.) A Mighty Wind FINALLY opened here. I plan to see it at some point this weekend, and I cannot wait. If the songs are halfway as fantastic as "God Loves a Terrier" and any damn song from Waiting for Guffman, I know they will amuse me to no end. 8.) I have no concrete plans for the weekend. Several possibilities but no confirmations. I like it this way. It means I can do whatever the hell I want. It will probably involve some movie watching, book reading, book buying, coffee drinking, alcohol drinking, paper journal writing, and friends seeing. Probably no housecleaning. 9.) Daisy really likes "Better Things," too. She let me dance with her while holding her front paws, which usually makes her nervous, and she got so excited by my spastic bouncing during the song this morning that she repeatedly tried to jump into my arms while I was standing up, which is quite the acrobatic feat. (Zuko has missed out on the dancing fun because his sole indoor activity these days is lying morosely outside of my bedroom with his nose pressed against the door. That's where the cats hang out when the dogs come inside. I realize that this sequestered life is going to have to end one day, but right now, it's just the only way to keep the peace. I think I'm doing a great job of splitting the time between the canines and felines and I think they're happier this way. Except for Zuko, who's a little depressed by not being able to get just one little taste of the cats.) 10.) I ate two gigantic scoops of Moo-llennium Crunch ice cream today.
